Non-Construction Opportunities

Looking for something to do that doesn't require a hammer?  Volunteer for one of the following fun activities, and make a difference with Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East!

Urgent Volunteer Needs:

  • Volunteer to be a Family Partner:  The role of the Family Partner is to help newly selected Habitat families become successful homeowners.  Through ongoing, personal contact with the Habitat family, family partners provide direction, support, information and encouragement during the construction phase, move-in process, and first year of homeownership. The time commitment can be 2-10 hours per month that includes bi-monthly meetings, bi-weekly contact with the Habitat family during the construction phase and move-in process, monthly contact with the family during the first year of home ownership, and occasional group activities. We are looking for people with caring attitudes who are able to motivate, listen and encourage as well as understand the values of HFH. Being a family partner is a great way to create new relationships and friendships between volunteers and families and give them a smooth transition into a new home. For more information please email Matina Kauffman.
  • Volunteer to be on the Family Selection Committee: The goal of the Family Selection Committee is to identify and recommend the most needy, qualified applicants to the Board of Directors for approval to become Habitat homeowners. During the three month selection process, volunteers will be needed to assist with application meetings, review the applications, complete home visits and identify the most needy, qualified families for Board approval. To be on the committee you must attend quarterly meetings. We are looking for volunteers who have a caring attitude and good, non-judgmental, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to speak any additional languages (Vietnamese, Spanish) is very helpful. For more information please email Matina Kauffman.

Ongoing Volunteer Needs:

  • Join a Committee! We need volunteer members for our Family Partners, Famiily Selection, Land Acquisition, Construction Design, Construction In-Kind Donations, Faith Relations, Speaker's Bureau, and Women Build committees.  Meetings are typically once a month, on weekday evenings.  Find out more on the Committee Details page.  If you're interested, contact the chair of that committee.
  • Help in the Office!  Our office volunteers assist staff with special projects. We're just looking for friendly folks who enjoy working with people - no office experience required! Half or full weekdays are needed. If you're interested, send our Volunteer Manager an email.
  • Work in the ReStore! The ReStore is always looking for volunteers to work in the store.  Find out more on their website.
