The Aguayo Home

Living every day in a leaky, dilapidated mobile home is not what Sandra and Martin Aguayo had envisioned for their family when they moved to the United States from Mexico. Although they both work very hard to support their family – Sandra works as a cashier at a clothing retail store and Martin works as a mail sorter for a printing business – they simply do not earn enough to move out of their current living conditions.

Sandra and Martin share the small, drafty mobile home with their three children: Sandy (13), Stacey (9) and Martin (6). The windows leak when it rains, which has caused a severe mold problem within the home. They also experience problems with the mobile home’s plumbing system.

They were thrilled to be accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program, and are looking forward to helping build and buy one of the homes at our upcoming Martins Street community build in Southeast Portland’s Lents neighborhood.

With this Habitat for Humanity home, they hope to finally realize their dream of providing a safe and healthy place for their children to grow. They are also looking forward to having more room for their children to study, so they can succeed in school and eventually go on to college.

This home is being sponsored by Thrivent Build . Find out more about how you, your company, your organization or your faith group can help a family like the Aguayo's through home sponsorship.
